A Technological Tour De Force - Our 22/22 Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus

When five Silicon Valley entrepreneurs put their minds together in 2003, they created something incredible. And so, Tesla Inc was born – an electric automobile and power storage manufacturer seeking to rethink the entire passenger car landscape. Pioneering, forward-thinking, and utterly creative, a certain Elon Musk (have you heard of him) helped drive the company into becoming one of the most well-known electric car brands.

And since its inception, the company has never rested. First came along the Tesla Roadster, Model S, Model X, Model Y, and its latest creation… the superb Model 3. All these models are of course, different in character, style, and market segment, but they are all created around the same philosophy – technological simplicity and a cool, modern, clean design ethos. But it is the Model 3 we are interested in today, namely the Standard Range Plus.

Although it is Tesla’s entry-level offering, the Model 3’s 235bhp, 254 miles of range, epic 0-60mph time of 5.3 seconds, and top speed of 140mph make it a truly awesome car to own. If you roll up to a set of lights and a turbocharged BMW drives up alongside you, you can bet your bottom dollar that you’ll get away first. It is a truly fun car to own.

But we’re just scratching the surface. You’ve got the performance, but arguably an even more impressive trait is the car’s jaw-dropping use of technology to enhance your experience. The gigantic 15-inch touchscreen can, initially, appear to dominate the cabin, but use it for a few days and you genuinely start to feel like every other car on the market is extremely backward.

By tapping into our ‘always on’ culture, Tesla has very cleverly positioned the Model 3 as an extension of our technological selves, rather than a mundane transportation device. In the past, excitement was generated by a thunderous V8, now, it is clever, interconnected technology.

When recently interviewed, Elon Musk conceptualised the Tesla motorcar as a supercomputer that just happens to have four wheels and a steering wheel. In other words, Tesla is advancing the definition of what a modern car can be.
