Ford Ranger Stormtrak: When Muscle Meets Style

We love a good truck at HarveyCooper Cars. The sense of invincibility you get when you’re behind the wheel is utterly addictive, giving you the impression that whatever terrain you end up battling through – it’ll take it all in its stride. It’s a theme we’ve explored extensively recently – the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon which we highlighted last week, and the Mercedes-Benz X350d we sold last month both exude an aura of ability and competence that you can’t help but be bowled over by.

But this week we travel to the streets of Detroit, Michigan, giving us the extraordinary Ford Ranger Stormtrak; a ‘beefed-up’, louder, more extravagant, outlandish version of the ever-popular Wildtrak. Boasting a variety of exterior and interior design flourishes, the Stormtrak takes the vehicle’s road presence to the next level. Proud red nostrils added to the front grille, gloss black 18-inch alloy wheels, gloss Ebony details, matt black bonnet stripes, and special vivid ‘Stormtrak’ lettering to the side sills and rear bumper give an aggressive demeanour, looking brutish but with a playful quality.

Moreover, the optional £720 ‘Rapid Red’ metallic paint sparkles in the sun, whilst the part leather Ebony seats hold yet another ‘Stormtrak’ logo, and the treadplates invite you in with bold lettering as well. All in all, it’s a triumph of fun, capability, and extroverted design, forging a complete package that serves multiple purposes. Expect it to be driven by serial pick-up buyers who want a fresh look that the family will love but with all the same useful haulage and storage ability.

It is powered by a turbocharged 4-cylinder 2-litre diesel engine, providing 210bhp and 500Nm torque via a 10-speed automatic transmission, providing plenty of grunt alongside admirable efficiency. Don’t expect to outrun 3-litre V6 Defenders, but you’ll be able to keep up with much of the competition.
