Passion, power, and prowess – Jaguar F Type R Dynamic P300

Even those who only have a passing interest in cars cannot help but turn their heads when they spot a Jaguar F Type. Really? Yes, really. First shown to audiences in 2013, it mesmerised journalists at the time. Its use of lightweight aluminium, a ferocious front-mid mounted powertrain, and drop-dead gorgeous looks made it stand apart from the rest. Any TopGear fans here will recall the episode where Clarkson waxes lyrical about the V8 example – it was, and still is, a timeless British sports car.

But what would your reaction be to a four-cylinder motor in the new one? Concern? Surprise? Disappointment? But you need not worry. Producing 300PS via an 8-speed automatic transmission, launching from 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, and going on to a top speed of 155mph, you certainly can’t say that this version of F Type is lacking in the performance department. Ok, it may not have the raucous exhaust note of its V6 or V8 counterparts, but it more than makes up for it in the way that it drives.

And that’s not all. The real reason you always went for the Jag rather than a BMW or a Merc was that they promised genuine style, sexiness, and a debonair attitude that made them a joy to own and live with – and why they have garnered such a following.
