Summer is approaching. It might not feel like it – it’s the last week in March and the UK is still being inundated with a mix of cloudy skies, swirling winds, and pounding rain showers. It all starts with the design. Subtle, aggressive in places, but utterly comprehensive and unoffensive, it harks back to all the best shapes and models of the last few decades. It has a Triumph TR6, Fiat Barchetta, and Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster-like charm. And you can’t say that about many cars these days.

And the engine matches the cracking design. A 2-litre 4-cylinder producing 194bhp might not sound that exciting, but the very fact that it is a diminutive unit makes the whole package better. Colin Chapman (of Lotus fame) was fixated on lightness above all else in a motor car, and although Audi has never strived to make particularly light cars, the TT is all the better for the fact that it has been kept on the slim side.

And it is a lovely place to spend time. The Black leather and Alcantara interior give a sporty yet luxurious feel – and though the seats are sports-focused, they offer plenty of support and adjustment for those longer drives. All in all, Audi has made the perfect sports car. Vibrant, stylish; not overly focused on performance, and possessing a distinctive character that makes it irresistible.
